embedded pros: none
embedded cons: icom uses separate, modular design is better for debugginig/maintenance (Unix philosophy), separate gives you more control over the charging voltage (i suppose the radio charger has a overvoltage protection so that it will lower down any high voltage down to the recommended voltage of 4.2V. and 8f you use less than 4.2v the radio will still charge but more slowly.)
